University of Galway – Chiller Upgrade

Dominic O’Connor Ltd. delivered the replacement and upgrade of critical cooling infrastructure across multiple University of Galway campus buildings including Human Biology, Orbsen and Bailey Allen Hall.

The project involved the removal and replacement of rooftop chiller units together with chilled water pipework modifications, BMS integration, electrical coordination and full testing and commissioning works, all within a live university environment.

Works were carefully phased to maintain uninterrupted cooling services to active teaching, laboratory and research facilities throughout the programme.

Dominic O’Connor Ltd. completed a comprehensive decarbonisation and refurbishment project at St. Patrick’s Boys National School under the RePowerEU Schools Energy Pathfinder Programme.

University of Limerick Student Centre

Dominic O’Connor Ltd. delivered the complete mechanical services installation for the University of Limerick Student Centre development, a major new multi-storey student facilities building located at the centre of the university campus.

The development incorporated lecture theatres, meeting rooms, music rooms, gaming and recreation facilities, café space, welfare accommodation, offices and student support areas together with associated mechanical services infrastructure.

The mechanical services installation included heat pump systems, LPHW heating systems, domestic hot and cold water services, ventilation systems, air conditioning installations, BMS controls, natural gas services and full testing and commissioning of all associated systems.

Technological University of the Shannon, Athlone Campus

Dominic O’Connor Ltd. delivered the complete mechanical services installation for the Higher Education Bundle 1 development at the Athlone Campus of Technological University of the Shannon.

The project comprised a modern third level STEM and education facility incorporating laboratories, sports science laboratories, IT labs, lecture theatres, office accommodation, welfare facilities and collaborative teaching spaces designed to support advanced higher education programmes.

The mechanical services package included multifunction air source heat pumps, chilled and heating water systems, laboratory ventilation systems, air handling units, VAV systems, BMS controls, domestic water services, rainwater harvesting systems, specialist laboratory gases and full commissioning of all associated plant and systems.

The project included specialist ventilation systems, dust extraction systems to construction studies rooms, science laboratory ventilation, kitchen canopy extraction systems, natural gas infrastructure, rainwater harvesting systems, heating systems and full BMS integration throughout the campus.

The project was delivered under a PW-CF2 Design & Build contract within a live educational environment and completed to a high quality standard in compliance with BCAR, QAQC and commissioning requirements.

The development included ancillary accommodation, circulation links to the existing hospital and four dedicated neutral pressure isolation rooms designed to meet HBN 04-01 S1 standards.

Scoil Chuimsitheach Chiaráin, Carraroe, Co. Galway

Dominic O’Connor Ltd. delivered a complete energy efficiency upgrade project at Scoil Chuimsitheach Chiaráin under the National Energy Efficiency Upgrade Pilot Programme 2020.

The project involved coordinated architectural, mechanical and electrical retrofit works including roofing upgrades, glazing replacement, external render systems, heating system upgrades, LED lighting replacement and photovoltaic installation.

Bonham Quay Mixed Use Development, Galway

Dominic O’Connor Ltd. delivered the complete mechanical services installation associated with the Bonham Quay mixed use waterfront development in Galway City. The development comprised over 34,000m² of Grade A office accommodation together with retail, restaurant and student residential facilities overlooking Galway Docks.

The project incorporated low carbon mechanical systems including heat pumps, chilled and heating water systems, four-pipe fan coil installations, ventilation systems, BMS controls, domestic water services and associated public health infrastructure delivered using BIM Level 2 coordination processes.

Designed to achieve LEED Gold certification standards, the development was delivered within a complex live urban environment requiring detailed coordination with multiple stakeholders and phased construction sequencing throughout the campus.

GMIT – iHub Extension

Dominic O’Connor Ltd. delivered the mechanical services installation for the extension of the Galway Mayo Institute of Technology iHub innovation centre.

The development doubled the size of the existing innovation hub and provided new office accommodation, MedTech research units, incubation spaces, co-working facilities, social hubs and networking areas for technology and enterprise development.
